This converted factory space showcases contemporary art exhibitions, live performances, film screenings, and more, offering a unique and immersive cultural experience. Explore the Criadero de Cocodriles (crocodile farm) in Boca de Guama, where you’ll learn about crocodile conservation and reintroduction efforts. This facility breeds Cuban and American crocodiles and holds cultural significance as an indigenous site named after a Taino chief. Our journey proceeds to a charming small town that hosts one of Cuba’s esteemed national art and music schools. Here, we embark on an enthralling visit, expertly guided by a faculty member, offering unique opportunities to interact with both students and staff. Depending on the day’s activities, we may have the privilege of observing a band class, engaging in conversations with a sculptor, or even participating in an invigorating dance lesson.  Following this enriching experience, we pause for a delightful lunch before making our way to our Casa Particular (Bed & Breakfast) accommodation nestled in the tranquil village of Playa Larga. After some well-deserved relaxation time or a leisurely beachfront stroll, we commence our first kayaking adventure. With paddle in hand, you’ll glide gracefully across the waters of the Bay of Pigs, all the while being regaled with captivating stories about the area by your knowledgeable guide. The two-hour session will swiftly pass, and before you know it, it will be time to return to the shore for a delicious dinner. Stay in a modest local home for the night. Kayak Paddle: Approx. 3 miles, 1.5-2 hours paddling time depending on weather and timing factors

Depending on availability, you may have the privilege of enjoying an informative presentation and engaging in discussions with the park’s director. Kayak Paddle: 7-10 miles, approx. 3.5-4 hours total paddling time. We have several starting location options for this paddle and the traveler’s interest and abilities will determine which put-in we use.  

Embark on an exciting journey to a pristine snorkeling spot, where you’ll be captivated by the stunning array of vibrant tropical fish. Playa Giron, a picturesque town renowned for its powdery white beaches, offers a unique opportunity to delve into Cuban culture and the revolution. Immerse yourself in history at Playa Giron’s local museum, which showcases artifacts from the twentieth century, vividly illustrating the Cold War era and the significant Bay of Pigs Invasion. After lunch at a local paladar discover the wonders of Cuba’s largest botanical gardens, home to an impressive collection of 2,000 plant species celebrated for their beauty and medicinal properties. Your knowledgeable guide will enlighten you about the plants’ origins and fascinating history. Dinner is in Trinidad and overnight at a Casa Particular, Casa Kenia or similar. 

Awaken in the historic city of Trinidad, Cuba’s third-oldest gem, and feel an immediate sense of rejuvenation. Immerse yourself in the enchanting colonial ambiance and profound culture of this UNESCO Heritage site, where time seems to stand still.  A short drive transports us to the banks of a nearby river, a place where Hernan Cortez made landfall five centuries ago. Here, embark on a tranquil paddle along the tree-lined waterway, where diverse bird species thrive and the panoramic view of Trinidad above is nothing short of breathtaking.  Trinidad, once a prominent sugar cane producer, boasts a vibrant UNESCO World Heritage colonial town. Join us in an immersive exploration of the local lifestyle and culture as we wander through the city’s cobblestone streets, each direction unveiling its own unique vista – the majestic Escambray mountains to one side and the glistening Caribbean Sea on the other.  The heart of the city, Plaza Mayor, captivates with its lively ambiance, surrounded by picturesque former sugar barons’ residences, now transformed into captivating museums showcasing art, architecture, and the rich tapestry of local history.  Later, step into the home of the esteemed photographer Julio Munoz, who has collaborated with some of the world’s finest photographers. Seek his expert advice on capturing the perfect shot as he generously shares his extensive knowledge. In the event that Julio is unavailable, we will visit the residence of a talented husband-and-wife sculptor duo who lead a non-profit art project.  Following these enlightening visits, we gather for another festive dinner at a local Paladar, followed by an opportunity to savor the vibrant atmosphere of the Casa de la Musica, an outdoor venue set on the city’s steps.  Overnight at a Casa Particular, Casa Kenia or similar.    

Kayak Paddle: 3.5-4 miles, approx. 1.5-2 hours total paddling time.  

Begin your day with a visit to the enchanting Guanaroca Nature Reserve, sprawling across 15,000 acres in Cienfuegos. This remarkable sanctuary safeguards a diverse array of indigenous plants and animals, exclusive to this region including a flock of resident flamingos. Immerse yourself in the verdant surroundings Laguna Guanaroca, a brackish lake formed by the Arimao River. Embark on a scenic kayak expedition along the river, eventually reaching the picturesque Bay of Cienfuegos. Here, a delectable seafood feast awaits on the inviting shoreline. 

Next, journey to the captivating city of Cienfuegos, often hailed as the “Pearl of the South.” Its distinct creole architecture and lingering French ambiance harken back to its colonial heritage. The city is divided into two sections: the central zone, characterized by the grandeur of Paseo del Prado and Parque Martí, and Punta Gorda, a slender peninsula boasting charming 20th-century homes that epitomize the essence of the era. Delight in a leisurely exploration of the city, engaging with the friendly locals and taking in the sights. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit Teatro Tomás Terry, an exquisite theater nestled on the northern side of Parque José Martí. It serves as a splendid example of Creole architecture and is sure to leave a lasting impression.  As night descends, we conclude our day with a delightful dinner, followed by accommodations thoughtfully arranged at local casas, providing you with an authentic and comfortable overnight stay. Return to Havana, making a stop at Ernest Hemingway’s former residence, now a museum dedicated to the iconic author. Explore the captivating artifacts and immerse yourself in Hemingway’s story, including a glimpse of the fishing village where his boat once docked. Our journey continues to Havana, where we visit the sprawling Mercado San Jose, a treasure trove of art and crafts, offering the perfect opportunity to find unique souvenirs. Embrace the Cuban spirit as you hop into a classic car, a quintessential element of Cuban life, and venture to the Plaza de la Revolucion. Discover the city’s history and admire the impressive murals depicting Cuba’s revolutionary leaders. Conclude the day with a delectable meal at an authentic Cuban parador restaurant, savoring the last moments of our unforgettable Cuban festivities.  Overnight at La Reserva Casa Particular or similar.
