When Grettel was 14, she still hadn’t seen the ocean. Living just two hours from the coast in beautiful Costa Rica, that might come as a surprise. But growing up in a large, close-knit family with limited resources meant travel simply wasn’t possible.

Everything changed the day a classmate’s parents invited her on a day trip to the beach. She still remembers the excitement bubbling up as they neared the shore—the sound of the waves, the feel of the sand, the salty breeze on her skin. It was the first time she’d seen the sea, and it opened her eyes to the beauty of her own country and the powerful impact of travel.

That one trip sparked a lifelong dream: to make sure other children, regardless of their background, get the chance to explore Costa Rica and create memories that inspire them for a lifetime.

With Green Planet’s Passport to Adventure, we’re turning that dream into reality. For every $50 adult contribution, Green Planet Expeditions adds 50% more to fund life-changing day trips for children in Costa Rica—kids who haven’t yet had the opportunity to discover their own country’s wonders.

Offsetting Carbon Emissions: Our Commitment to Regenerative Travel

At Green Planet Expeditions, we believe that travel should give back more than it takes. That’s why we’re proud to partner with the ICT-Fonafifo Carbon Offset Program—a powerful initiative that allows you to offset the carbon emissions generated during your trip, especially from air travel and ground transportation.

Through this alliance between the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) and Fonafifo (the National Forest Financing Fund), we calculate the carbon footprint of your journey and offer you a simple way to make your adventure more sustainable. Once we complete the emissions calculation, we add the offset to your invoice. Each carbon credit—priced at just $7.50—supports certified forest conservation and reforestation projects in Costa Rica.

Fonafifo has over 20 years of experience in the carbon market and ensures full transparency. Every traveler who participates receives an official Certificate of Carbon Offset, and Fonafifo reports the offsets annually to the national Climate Change Department.
